Newtown Vet is collecting ticks as part of the University of Rhode Island’s TickSpotters program! URI is monitoring changing tick populations and the tickborne disease risks that come with them.
Newtown Vet is 1 of 11 vet hospitals selected to participate in this program, and you can help.
Bring us your ticks!
It’s a strange request, but here’s why it helps:
By collecting as many ticks as possible and sending them to URI, we can create a profile of the ticks found in our area and the risks for both us and our pets.
Additionally, it’s important to properly dispose of ticks. Get them well away from your house by bringing them to us!
How to get them off?
Don’t use a flame! That puts your pet in harm’s way. Ask for a Merial tick remover and tick ID card when we see you next!
How to bring them in?
A ziplock bag is all it takes!
If you can’t remove the tick, our veterinary technicians can do it for you and show you how, too.
